But What IF there was a candidate whose principals went BEYOND the politics of election? What if there was one who thought governments burden should be less?

What if there was an experienced Congressman running for President who had been in office for 17 years and whose voting record has been completely consistent the entire time? What if he was SO principled that he:

Has never taken a government paid junket.

Never voted to raise taxes.

Never voted to increase the power of the Executive Branch

Never voted to raise Congressional pay.

Does not participate in the lucrative Congressional Pension program.

Has never voted for a Federal restriction on gun ownership.

Has never voted for an unbalanced budget.

Voted against the Patriot Act.

Voted against the Iraq war.

Voted against regulating the Internet.

Returns a portion of his Congressional office budget to the treasury every year.

What if he was a DOCTOR, not a lawyer like the rest; What if he believed that:

    * Rights belong to individuals, not groups.

    * Property should be owned by people, not government.

    * All voluntary associations should be permissible -- economic and social.

    * The government's monetary role is to maintain the integrity of the monetary unit, not participate in fraud.

    * Government exists to protect liberty, not to redistribute wealth or to grant special privileges.

    * The lives and actions of people are their own responsibility, not the government's.

What if he would immediately, if elected, begin work to:

    * Eliminate the personal income tax, thus ushering in an era of great prosperity by giving every working            person a huge increase in disposable income.

    * Bring all the troops home, not just from Iraq, but all 130 other countries as well.

    * Repeal the egregious Patriot Act.

    * Eliminate a great many bloated Federal Bureaucracies.

    * End the War On Some Drugs.

    * Privatize airport security, thus bringing to an end the appalling, senseless, and incompetent TSA.

Where would we GET such a candidate, anyway? If there WERE such a candidate, who would vote for him? Well, I would, for one. Would anybody else? Such a candidate DOES exist, which is the reason for the banner at the top of these web pages. His name?

I know, I know: "How could that even happen?" Well you might ask that. After all, it's axiomatic politicians will say what they need to say to get elected rather than what they'll actually do. After all, once they're elected, they no longer have to pander to the voting blocs. Bush, after all, ran on a platform of smaller government and noninterventionist foreign policies. Riiiigghht. Politicians are, by their very nature sleazy, opportunistic, and power hungry. How could it be any other way? Given what this country expects from their politicians, just how could it be any different?  Both parties are identical in every important way at all, They are two trains on parallel tracks, inexorably drawing our country toward the same precipice. Putting aside for a minute the disastrous foreign policies that we've been living with for decades, the domestic morass that we continue to sink into daily is the most intensely disheartening happenstance ever. The Democrats will not fix it. The Republicans will not fix it. It will take a change of the way of thinking of the voting populace to begin to correct our headlong flight to economic ruin and fascism. As long as people keep voting for the status quo, that's exactly what they'll get. Isn't there ANYBODY running for President who has a different vision of America than the continuing creation of gigantic, all-encompassing and intrusive bureaucracies? Aren't there any politicians these days who believe that there should be at least SOME limitations on the machinations of the Federal Government? A politician who TRULY believes in noninterventionist foreign policies and who TRULY believes that the Federal Government's role in our daily lives should be a small fraction of what it is today?

Paul For Ron Paul--What IF?
